I like to put across a manipulative feel. It can add some real depth into my pictures, be it digitally, or first hand using body movements and crazy ideas. Influences from polish photographer Andrejz Dragan’s moody and sinister portraits seep into my practice in a softer yet subtle tone. I like to take on board a portrait with sharp piercing eyes but with a glazed over feel, it makes you feel slightly empty.
My influences cross from all genres and subjects; I believe music plays a big part in what pictures I take. If I’m in an aggressive rock genre mindset I will take more aggressive and ‘in your face’ photos. When transitioning to soft and mellow acoustic ballads and chords I take a softer and my aesthetically pleasing image. I like to push the boundaries and sometimes ignore the basic rules of taking a ‘good’ picture. It makes me feel rebellious like the 1980’s Punk Rock era. Every revolution starts with someone breaking the boundaries, why not try to start a new one?
Originally a more illustrative and art based person I think that reflects in the images I capture. My favourite art movement was Fauvism. How artists started to express themselves through dream and imagination. Andre Derain, the famous Fauvism co founder painted his images in vivid colour where he preferred Portrait and Landscape much like myself.
I intend to make people look a little deeper into my photos and understand the bigger picture. A message towards my ‘a mouth ready to eat bulb’ shot might ring bells between the audience about ‘consuming energy’ in a subliminal fashion.
